    Maintenance Notes:

The flowers of Portulaca will close at night and reopen the next day.  They will tolerate dry soils, although they will perform optimally with average moisture.  These are tough plants that will tolerate poor soils and do not need a lot of fertilizer to perform well.  Deadheading is not needed.

This durable and colorful flowering succulent blooms all summer long in juicy shades of tangerine, pink, red, fuchsia, and yellow without deadheading. Choose which color suits your color palette when you buy. The vivid blooms are a welcome sight especially in high summer when they really come into their own. This plant is a great choice for warm climates and poor, drier soils.

    • This is my first time growing this plant and I just love it. It is so care free and a non-stop bloomer - I have had flowers open even on cloudy days. The neighborhood Hummingbirds also seem to like the flowers which for me is a bonus as I grow a lot of flowers in the summer for them. I plan on placing one in an old leaky birdbath next summer to see how it does. I hope I can find other colors next year.

    • This is an awesome plant for pots or hanging baskets. It does not wilt, even in the height of summer, and blooms continuously with hot pink flowers from first planting until heavy frost. The plants stay thick in the center of the pot and gradually spread tendrils over the sides. Very bright, graceful, and easy care plantings.

    • I love this plant in a container with the Butterfly Marguerite Daisy and bright purple Angelface Blue Angelonia. It grows well, flowers all summer long, and does not require deadheading. It loves sun, heat, and dry conditions. The blossoms close at night, and may not open if the day is too cloudy. I often recommend this plant to friends.
