I tried this plant last year and loved it, but it did not make it through the harsh winter. I just bought another and this fall I will dig it up and move it into my unheated garage for the winter in a pot. I hope that it will survive as do my mums, geraniums and other plants I bring in for winter.

Maintenance Notes:Each flowering stem adds blooms, continuously to the end of the spike. As time goes on, the flowering stems can get rather long and tangled. Although deadheading isn't necessary for continued blooming you may find that you prefer to trim back some of the flowering stems at some point in mid-summer. This will encourage new flowering stems to emerge. Flowers will be closer to the foliage and the plant will look tidier. If you choose, you can trim all the flower stems off at once, however, you should then expect a 2 to 3 week period without flowers.

If you are looking for a WOW! factor in your flower beds gaura is the plant. I planted 2 years ago and am looking forward to seeing how they perform this year. They have spread into different spots since I planted but I'm glad about that because my beds are so whimsical in the summer. They are a plant that is easy, no pests or problems that I have seen, and they make one happy. Have planted them along with white ones and darker pink.
