Salvia longispicata x farinacea
Spring to Fall Finish. Standard ppp.
Pinch 7 to 10 days after transplanting. Apply PGR's if needed. Bonzi, B-9 and Cycocel are all effective. Use of cold temperatures can also help control growth.
Botrytis, Pythium and Rhizoctonia can be problematic. Apply a broad-spectrum fungicide drench at transplant. Scout regularly for insect pests especially thrips aphids, white flies and fungus gnats and treat if necessary. Appropriate water management should decrease insect problems. Good sanitation practices include keeping greenhouses clean at all times, eliminating weeds and debris, disinfecting equipment in greenhouses as often as possible and keeping hose ends off of the greenhouse floor. Good water management practices are critical for good, healthy plant growth.
-using fertilizer high in ammonia content can cause excessive vegetative growth and lack of flowers. -cold temperature is an effective growth regulator.
