    Features

Named after Vang Vieng, Laos, where it was discovered growing epiphytically in the humid shade of limestone mountains, is another rare hoya–Hoya vangviengiensis. Try saying that name five times fast! ‘Vangviengiensis’ has thick, succulent leaves of solid, glossy green. Leaves are coated in a delicate layer of peach fuzz, making them smooth to touch. If given the proper conditions, ‘Vangviengiensis’ will send out fragrant, fuzzy flowers of pearlescent white. Like other hoyas, this hoya is a climber and should be given a hoop or some other trellis structure to twine around.

    Maintenance Notes:
    • For optimal performance, keep your Hoya at 60-85°F (15-29°C).
    • Hoyas perform best in bright, indirect light or filtered sunlight. They will tolerate lower light conditions, but will not grow as vigorously or show their colors as vibrantly. Some early morning or late evening sunlight may be tolerated and cause some sought-after “blushing” to appear, but monitor your Hoya for leaf burning if it is in direct sun.
    • Hoyas are generally adaptable to ambient household humidity, but they do appreciate higher humidity. You can help get humidity above 60% by using a humidifier, misting your Hoya, or keeping it on a pebble tray.
    • Hoyas prefer to dry out in between waterings. As such, water your Hoya thoroughly when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry. They can tolerate periods of drought, and overwatering them will cause more harm than underwatering.
    • Feed your Hoya once per month at half strength when it is actively growing. Reduce frequency of fertilization in the winter months. If no new leaves are growing, it does not need to be fertilized.
    • Protect furniture when watering & fertilizing.
    • When repotting your Hoya, use a chunky all-purpose potting mix, with additional orchid bark and perlite added, to ensure your Hoya has good drainage and plenty of nutrients.
    • Hoyas are vines, capable of trailing or climbing. If you’d like it to climb, provide it with structure, such as a moss pole, trellis, stakes, or other structure.
