    Maintenance Notes:

Each flowering stem adds blooms, continuously to the end of the spike. As time goes on, the flowering stems can get rather long and tangled. Although deadheading isn't necessary for continued blooming you may find that you prefer to trim back some of the flowering stems at some point in mid-summer. This will encourage new flowering stems to emerge. Flowers will be closer to the foliage and the plant will look tidier. If you choose, you can trim all the flower stems off at once, however, you should then expect a 2 to 3 week period without flowers.

Lovely in landscapes or as thrillers in combination containers, gauras add height, wispy texture, and movement to the design. Their graceful stems bear non-stop blooms through the heat of summer.

    • Five or six years ago I planted a few of these. Not only were they beautiful in our extreme sun and heat, they made it through week long hard freezes. At the end of their bloom span, they are very easy to pull up. They reseed themselves and take over entire flowerbeds and into your grass, which is easily mowed. So you can share the new plants with friends by the flat full. This year something new happened. They are full of monarch caterpillars! Even the local nursery hadn’t heard of this. I am amazed at these plants. Our honeybees sound like a symphony on summer mornings. Hundred of honeybees flock to our pink picotees! They’re my fave plant in the garden!

    • Love this plant. It has survived many Canadian winters. Last summer, sadly it was attacked all July with Japanese beetles! Had to pick them off, yuck!

    • I lived in Zone 5b Ontario Canada. Purchased 6 plants last summer (2019). Grown it within the strong wind area. Although the label indicated Annual plants. I am very surprised all 6 of them survived our extreme weather. I would suggest to get a thick layer of mulch over it, just like mulch rose shrub overwinter. Strongly recommended

    • This is the first year that I have grown it. I have decided that so far it is my favorite. Plan on getting the white variety.

    • I purchased this plant blooming on June 6, now Aug. 18 has 100's of blooms. Surviving 100+ degree weather in a container. Even if I can't winter it over, it was wellworth the purchase.
