The 10 most frequently asked questions
- Why do natural climbing poles work so well?
In the natural habitat of climbing plants, the jungle, they grow onto trees. The structure of the tree bark helps the plant with moisture and grip. The plants arial roots can easily attach to the tree. - Why don’t moss poles perform as expected?
The market standard for climbing plants is the moss pole. Those ‘moss poles’ typically have a wooden of PVC core with dead coco fibers. This coco fiber is treated against water absorption and insects. Otherwise it would mold in the nurseries or introduce invasive insects into the country. Therefore the arial roots are not activated well by the moss pole. - What materials are Kratiste climbing poles made from?
The Kratiste climbing pole is made from 100% natural materials and is nontoxic (independently tested by OWS). The main ingredients of the climbing pole are potato skins and Elephant grass. The complete pole is sourced and manufactured in our own factory in the Netherlands. - Is the climbing pole the only 100% sustainable solution?
The Kratiste climbing pole is the only 100% natural solution for plants. Since (almost) the complete sector is relaying on Asia for their plants sticks, our alternative is unique. - Why was the natural climbing pole not invented earlier?
Natural materials are available for a long time. The key is not only to have natural ingredients but have the bark-like structure that produces healthier and more beautiful plants. This is a process that was developed and invented in-house by Kratiste. - How can I buy the Kratiste climbing poles to help my plants thrive?
Every day the number of Kratiste sales displays grow in the garden centres. If your garden centre is still selling unsustainable plant support which underperform for your plants, ask them to order a free shop display. - Is the Kratiste climbing pole much more expensive than the PVC version with coco fibers?
In the retail stores Kratiste climbing poles are about the same price as the unsustainable ones from Asia. Sometimes the Kratiste climbing poles are even cheaper since as eco-conscious retailers often prioritize sustainable options. - Why are some plants sold in the shops without Kratiste?
After years of development Kratiste entered the market in early 2024. Since we are new and plants have to grow for quite some time, some are still sold with traditional supports. Of course if you plant with a green conscience a 100% natural climbing pole is going to be your favourite! - What new products is Kratiste planning to introduce?
Based on a lot of questions from our customers we are going to introduce Kratiste Shapes® into the market by the first half of 2025. Plants shapes are not only expensive but the bended iron is not performing at all. They are unsustainable and clips slide of the iron so the plant will fall of the shape.
The iron shapes also do not stimulate the growth of the plant. Of course the natural structure of the Kratiste Shapes keep the clips at exactly the right place for your plants. Also it helps the plant attach itself to the shape. Which helps functional but also looks amazing, just like in the jungle.
The 100% natural ingredients make the products very sustainable. - Why wasn’t I aware that traditional plant supports are unsustainable?
Since there was no alternative to unsustainable plant support, retailers had no choice for a long time. Now they have a choice for better, sustainable plant support.
BONUS: I love plants and nature! How can I help promote sustainable plant support?
