Professional Growing Information I planted Exochorda ‘Snow Day Surprise’ as a foundation planting in areas on the west and east facing sides of our house in zone 7. So far it has been semi-evergreen (a boon!) and blooming nicely this first spring. I had the old prostrate exochorda and this growth habit is far preferable. I love the snow while blooms and the fresh green foliage as do the rabbits. We had to put some screen around the bases last fall to prevent nibbling. Definitely happy that I made this choice.

Maintenance Notes:Prune to shape after flowering. This plant flowers on the previous season's growth ('old wood'). Adaptable to most soils but prefers well drained acidic soil. Fertilize with a controlled release shrub fertilizer in spring.

It has extra large flowers that are roughly twice the size of those of 'The Bride'. This is a very showy specimen plant for the spring landscape, and can be incorporated into mixed borders. It can be pruned to keep small or trained into a small tree.
